Appraiser's Statement

Rachel Adler Rosan is a private art consultant and appraiser with over 25 years experience in the Post-War and 20th Century and Contemporary art market. Rachel routinely values between $500million and $1B in art a year, providing expert appraisals for estate tax, charitable donation, insurance and collateral loans, including many artist’s estates. Rachel advises collectors on acquiring emerging, mid-career and and investment grade blue-chip art, as well as deaccessioning works when needed.

Most recently, Rachel was Senior Director of Fine Art, specializing in 20th Century and Contemporary Art at Gurr Johns, Inc., one of the most prestigious private appraisal and advisory companies, serving clients worldwide, and who require the utmost in confidentiality and anonymity. Rachel continues to consult for Gurr Johns on a regular basis. Beginning in 1997, Rachel spent 9 years as Vice President of Contemporary Art at Sotheby’s, where she led both the day and evening sales during a time of rapid market expansion. After leaving Sotheby’s, she consulted for Gurr Johns for several years (while raising her three boys) before joining Phillips auction house in 2015 as Senior Specialist and Head of Appraisals for 20th Century & Contemporary Art for 7 years, where she effectively built an industry standard appraisal department where there had been none.

Rachel often lectures on the process of valuation for Modern and Contemporary art to university students, museum groups and private banking and wealth advisors. Having a deep understanding of art as an asset class, she has helped build investment quality art collections for collectors worldwide.

Rachel is a member of ArtTable and is actively involved with the American Friends of the Israel Museum. She is a certified member of the Appraisers Association of America (AAA) and her appraisals are compliant with the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP).
