Appraising Emerging Artists

Registration Information
October 30, 2015 | 11:00am - 3:00pm

Explore the art scene in the suburbs of New York City. Take advantage of two private exhibition tours featuring emerging and contemporary artists. Both exhibitions focus on artists promoting social agendas. Our focus will be on how to evaluate artworks by emerging artists.

First, we will tour ‘Initial Conditions: Artists Make Spaces’ at Franklin Street Works . This exhibition explores alternative art spaces inspired by the artist-started spaces and projects that flourished in New York City in the 1970s.

After lunch, the group will have a private tour of the Neuberger Museum exhibition ‘After 1965’ which draws on works from a politically turbulent period in the United States. The exhibition on focuses on works produced from the mid-1960s through the early 1970s, and their influences fifty years later.

Learning Objectives:

  • Determine how to find comparables for emerging artists
  • Learn about alternative arts spaces
  • Discuss social and political themes in emerging art with the Franklin Street Works exhibition curator
