The Appraisers Association of America presents the second lecture of the 2013-2014 Fireman’s Fund Lecture Series, “The Latin American Art Market” with August Uribe on December 2nd at the National Arts Club. During his lecture, August will provide a history of the art market at auction. Sotheby’s held its first sale of Mexican Art in 1977. The million-dollar result enabled the auction house to include art from all of Latin America by 1979. The same year, Christie’s entered the market. Mr. Uribe will discuss the evolution of sale totals and buyer trends from the beginning of Latin American art as a regional market to the global presence it has today. Finally, he will consider the evolution of the market by comparing what was selling in 1977 and what is fashionable today.

Kindly RSVP for this lecture in advance. No payments will be accepted at the door; all reservations must be made prior to the lecture (and no later than Tuesday, November 26th).
