The View from Here: Confronting a Volatile Art Market as a Consultant and Appraiser
During this Ask the Experts seminar, “The View from Here: Confronting a Volatile Art Market as a Consultant and Appraiser,” Lisa Austin, AAA will discuss her role as a fine art advisor and appraiser. She will explain the ethical principles and standards governing the arts advising profession, the compensation structure for advisors, and the enforcement and other activities of the Association of Professional Art Advisors (of which she is an Executive Board Member). Her detailed description of advisory services will dispel certain misconceptions surrounding fine art consulting. Lisa’s presentation topics will include the place of appraisal services in the advisory relationship and the interactions that typically occur with specialists in insurance, conservation, information management and other areas.
Lisa Austin, AAA has more than 30 years of experience as a fine art advisor to corporations and private clients and is principal of Lisa Austin and Associates in Miami, Florida. Her fine art advisory services include budget development, site location plans, research and analysis of the fine art market, and curatorial advice on establishing collections of lasting value and importance. Lisa also advises private individuals on the purchase of museum quality fine art for their personal collections. Services for private clients include collections management, insurance, appraisals, databases, and strategies for de-accessioning art. Additionally, in October 2013, Lisa became a certified member of the Appraisers Association in post-war contemporary and emerging art. As a personal property appraiser, she offers a full spectrum of appraisal services, along with art succession planning and disposition of fine art assets.
