THEORY AND METHODOLOGY

Wednesday, March 12, 2014 and Wednesday, March 19, 2014 from 4:00pm to 7:00pm EST.
An online course offered by the Appraisers Association in collaboration with 
NYU School of Continuing and Professional Studies (NYU-SCPS)

Taught by Certified Member and seasoned appraiser Karen Holtzman, AAA, this is the online version of the Theory & Methodology Course and Examination required as part of the process to become both an Accredited and Certified Member of the AAA. However, the course is designed for appraisers at every level—those applying for membership, as well as current members seeking to brush-up, and other professionals involved in valuation issues seeking further knowledge.

Attend class via streaming video on your personal computer and participate through an online classroom forum used by the NYU-SCPS on Wednesday, March 12, 2014 and Wednesday, March 19, 2014 from 4:00pm to 7:00pm EST. You will have a week -- until Wednesday, March 26, 2014 -- to complete the examination. 

Topics to be covered include The Appraisal Process, Valuation Approaches, Legal (and other) Considerations for the Appraiser, Review & Terminology, and more!

  • AAA Appraisal Terms and Definitions
  • AAA “Elements of A Correctly Prepared Appraisal”

Topics:

  • The Appraisal Assignment, such as Assignment Conditions and Defining the Scope of Work
  • Valuation Considerations, such as Purpose of the Appraisal, Approaches and Types of Values, Marketplace as well as Support for Valuation Conclusions
  • Legal and Other Considerations, such as the Appraiser’s Responsibility to Client, Appraiser as Fiduciary? Appraiser as Authenticator? Appraiser’s Responsibilities on IRS Forms, IRS Consequences for Grossly Over or Under Evaluations
  • Terminology / Definitions

Cancellation Policy

Taught by Appraisers Association members Kathy Rosenblatt, AAA and Cynthia Herbert, this is the traditional, in-person version of the Theory & Methodology Course and Examination. This course is for the working appraiser who wants to be a Certified Member who needs latest T&M or an Accredited member who would like to brush up on the T&M.  You MUST pass the Theory & Methodology Exam to become a Certified Member.

Attend class in the Appraisers Association Office in New York City on Tuesday, May 13, 2014 - Wednesday, May 14, 2014. One day will be spent on the course material; exam to follow during the second half of the second day. Lunch will be a working lunch; please bring your own box lunch.

IMPORTANT: please note our new program cancellation policy (as of January 1, 2014): If for any reason you cannot take the class for which you register, please contact the Appraisers Association's Programs Manager as soon as possible. The Appraisers Association's cancellation policy for USPAP and all programs is as follows: you must indicate in writing (fax or email) at least 5 (five) business days prior to the course if you need to cancel or change your registration (to another course). If you do NOT let us know at least 5 business days prior to the course, you will be charged a $50 administration fee.
