Appraising Modern Fine Art Tapestries

Join the Appraisers Association and Charles Mathes, long-time member and director of Jane Kahan Gallery, for “Appraising Modern Fine Art Tapestries,” a comprehensive and hands-on program in which Mr. Mathes will take us through his gallery's exhibition, which arguably contains the world's largest collections of historically important fine art tapestries available for sale. Mr. Mathes will illustrate his presentation with actual pieces and digital images and will address the following topics:
After a lunch break, Marlene Eidelheit, the director of the Textile Conservation Laboratory at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, will give an onsite tour of what is considered by many to be the top such facility in the world and discuss the issues of conserving modern tapestries. World-renowned museums, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the J. Paul Getty Museum, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and many others have entrusted the Lab with the conservation of valuable works in their own collections.
