In Pursuit of Fashion: The Sandy Schreier Collection Tour and Lecture Join us for a private before-hours tour of In Pursuit of Fashion: The Sandy Schreier Collection at The Met led by Sandy Schreier herself. The Costume Institute's Fall 2019 exhibition explores pieces from Ms. Schreier's private fashion collection, a trove of twentieth-century French and American couture and ready-to-wear collected over the course of over half a century. Following the tour, Laura Layfer, fine and decorative arts consultant, will provide a presentation on the clothing and accessories market. Ms. Layfer will consider the rise of the luxury industry from highly coveted handbags and costume jewels, to the identifiable elements of a one-of-a-kind and couture vs. runway and ready-to-wear garments. Ms. Layfer will discuss how value is defined at auction and resale, the provenance of vintage and new fashion, and how the vice of "shopping" has transitioned to a lucrative vocation for many consumers and collectors alike.
