The Los Angeles County Museum of Art’s (LACMA) Conservation department is opening its doors! Visit the paintings, paper,textiles, objects and research departments.

Attendees will have the opportunity to tour the first conservation department to open on the West Coast. These on-site laboratories are where teams of specialists examine and treat works of art with sophisticated technology. The conservation department staff work closely with other museum departments to care for the permanent collection and on-loan works.

Program Objectives:

  •  Learn how these specialists document condition
  • Discuss issues when diagnosing problems
  •  Explore when and how conservators recommend repairs
  •  See how the museum environment is monitored
  • Grasp the museum’s procedures for safe storage and transport
