19th Century American Silver: Innovation and Influences

A two-part program, beginning with a lecture presented by 
Joseph P. Brady, AAA at at the Appraisers Association office, followed by a hands-on examination of objects at Christie’s and Sotheby’s Americana Sale previews. 

During the program you will have the opportunity to:

  • Discuss the transition from silversmithing shop to manufactory in the U.S. during the first half of the 19th Century
  • Learn about the effects of the Tariff of 1842 on the silver industry
  • Study the change in sources of the raw material
  • Examine European and Asian influences on American design
  • Consider home-grown fashions in American silver which crossed the Atlantic in the opposite direction

Members earn 5 CE credits.
