March 9, 2017 | 10:00am - 5:00pm
New York City, NY

The field of Modern and Contemporary South Asian art remains relatively
unknown to many people in the art world but the market for it has grown since 2007, with major auction houses offering dedicated sales, galleries specializing in South Asian artists and new scholarship being presented.

This full day program, held during Asia Week, will offer a balance of connoisseurship, scholarship and market information from leading experts in the field. First, Sunil Chaddha, DAG Gallery Director in New York and Josheen Oberoi, DAG Art Advisor, will address the history of Modern and Contemporary South Asian art. Next, Anu Nanavati, Vice President of Saffronart will introduce the leading online auction house to discuss their platform and market strategy.

At the Metropolitan Museum, John Guy, Curator of South Asian art, will lead you through the exhibition An Artist of her Time: Y.G. Srimati and the Indian Style. Finally, preview Sotheby’s Asia Week sales highlights for an update on the current market with Anuradha Ghosh-Mazumdar, Senior Vice President and Head of Department, Indian and Southeast Asian.
