China’s 5000 years of pottery production culminated in the 17th - 20th century with a repertoire of glazes, patterns and shapes identified as Later Chinese ceramics. In particular, monochromes and polychromes, blue and white porcelain, as well as famille rose and famille verte wares decorated many American homes in the 19th - 20th century.

The subtleties in age and quality are not always easy to identify and decipher. In this lecture, France Pepper, AAA will discuss the types of porcelains that appraisers often come across and the issues that arise when handling pieces that are confusing to evaluate.

Ms. Pepper will also discuss what makes a Later Chinese ceramic valuable, what to look for when inspecting a piece, and go-to resources and references. The lecture will include an update on the current market for these wares.
