Jewelry is one of the most dynamic categories in the international auction market, with auctions at all price ranges attracting a global audience of buyers. Each of these much-anticipated sales is preceded by months of meticulous examination and exhaustive research by highly-experienced professionals with up-to-date knowledge of current market trends. Similar to appraising other categories of personal property, appraising jewelry involves the application of certain criteria that affect value, including quality, condition, maker, provenance, rarity, age and market demand.

Kevin Zavian, Senior Appraiser in the Jewelry Department at Doyle Appraisers & Auctioneers, will take participants through the entire process of establishing the value of jewelry, with examples at all levels of quality. He will also discuss the classic four Cs of diamonds, as well as issues concerning authenticity and certification, and provide insights into current market trends for natural pearls and high quality rubies, sapphires and emeralds
