Debating Damage & Loss: Photography
Registration Information
May 23, 2018 | 1:00 - 5:00pm
New York City

One of the most challenging aspects of appraising a damaged artwork for the independent appraiser is establishing the loss of value without the benefit of another colleague to act as your sounding board. This session, part of a three-part series, will serve as an open forum for you to make sure you’ve covered all your bases when defending your argument for loss. Hosted by Jennifer Garland Ross, AAA, and Emily Thompson, AAA, each afternoon will focus on one specific period and medium, with a special guest appraiser working in that discipline.

The group will meet at The Better Image where the firms Director, Peter Mustardo, will discuss the limits of conservation treatments, and which processes and types of damage are more amenable to interventions, which are more difficult to remediate.

Afterwards, the group will discuss various case studies and the different approaches to valuation that an appraiser must deliberate before finalizing a report. Send us your case studies before the date so we can have relevant and real-time discussion. We will treat everything with the utmost discretion.
