This one day course, led by Rick Wester, AAA is designed to prepare you to step up to the lectern and direct the action at benefit auctions. Learn how to present a sale, take bids from the audience, phones and absentee bidders, read reserves and land on the “right foot” all while being charming, engaging and profitable for your organization. Rick will approach the art and craft of being an auctioneer from both the technical and the performance sides. In the morning session, attendee's will cover how to take bids, how to read the auctioneer’s book, how to understand reserves and how to open and close lots. Topics covered will include; The Auctioneer’s Role; Technical Training and Preparation; How to Practice and Prepare; and Developing a Persona. The afternoon will be devoted to a mock auction where each participant will get their turn at the lectern podium while the rest of the attendee's act as bidders.

Rick Wester, AAA has been in the field of photographic art sales for over 30 years. In 2004, Rick founded Rick Wester Fine Art, Inc. (RWFA,) an art services company specializing in artist representation, consulting to private collectors and corporations, secondary market sales and appraisals. Rick Wester Fine Art is a member of AIPAD, the Association of International Photography Art Dealers. Prior to founding RWFA, from 1979 until 1982 he was employed at LIGHT. In 1982 Rick became a private dealer and consultant with corporate clients in the law, advertising and insurance fields as well as an advisor to several private collectors. In 1992 he joined Christie's Inc., and in 2000 he became the International Director of Photographs while also serving as the department's auctioneer. Assisting his good friend and mentor Howard Greenberg, Rick became Interim Director of the Howard Greenberg Gallery and oversaw the gallery's move from Soho to its present location in the Fuller Building on 57th Street and Madison Avenue. At the same time, Rick Wester Fine Art began representing the Estate of Tennyson Schad, and laid the groundwork for the present business.
