Join us for an overview of Asia Week with two experts in the field!

In the morning, Ben Farina, AAA will offer a perspective on the Spring 2018 Asia Week sales in New York and Philadelphia, focusing on some highlights which may serve to illustrate current market trends in Asian arts, discussing works at the upper end of the market as well as more moderately valued works which an appraiser might expect to come across.

Afterwards, Lark Mason, AAA, president of iGavel Auctions and Lark Mason Associates, will provide hands-on experience of an array of objects on view, including Chinese jades, ceramics, and bronzes, during a walk-through of his auction house sale preview.

Ben Farina M.A., AAA serves as Vice President of Freeman’s and is the Department Head for Asian Arts. He first joined Freeman’s as the Gallery Director in 1992 and is returning after more than 20 years in the field. In 1998 he received his Master of Fine and Decorative Arts degree from Sotheby's Institute, London. Mr. Farina moved to New York in 1999 to continue his career; first at William Doyle Galleries, a Manhattan auction house, then in 2000 at in New York as a cataloguer of Decorative Arts. During his eight year tenure at Sotheby’s, he researched and catalogued a wide range of rare and important materials for the Arcade Decorative Arts, Fine Arts, and Chinese Works of Art departments. In 2009, he joined Gurr Johns Inc., appraisers and art consultants as an appraiser of Fine and Decorative Arts and as a consignment advisor. He is a member of the Appraisers Association of America, certified in Chinese Works of Art and General Fine and Decorative Arts.

Lark Mason, AAA is a renowned expert in Chinese art and antiquities. He is also an author, appraiser, independent curator, educator, and art consultant. He has regularly appeared since 1996 on the PBS series, Antiques Roadshow, where hespecializes in Asian works of art. He worked with Sotheby's, New York, from 1979-2003, where he was an appraiser, Senior Vice President in the Chinese Works of Art Department, and Director of Online Auctions. At Sotheby's, he evaluated collections including those of The National Trust for Historic Preservation, The Duke and Duchess of Windsor, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, and many others. In 2003, he left Sotheby's to start, an international art auction company with regional associates in most major metropolitan areas of the United States, and in Europe and Asia. He is an Adjunct Professor at New York University and he is regularly involved with the valuation and identification of Asian and other works of art.
