Our expert panel will focus on intellectual property and artist rights issues, auctions, contracts, inspections, and the increased risk of fraud in this changing marketplace, and provide insight to the question: “What do we, as buyers and sellers, need to know to protect ourselves in this new environment?"

Since joining Sotheby's in 2015, Stephanie Alexis has supported all levels of the business, including deal negotiation and risk management in connection with high-value and complex sales of art, wine, other objects, and experiences. She has advised leadership on strategic acquisitions, including Sotheby’s acquisition of Thread Genius. She has also supported the information technology and e-commerce teams on various initiatives, including online auctions and platform integration. Prior to joining Sotheby's, Stephanie was a senior associate at Cravath, Swaine & Moore LLP working on mergers and acquisitions, securities offerings and syndicated lending for institutional clients. Stephanie holds a BA from Harvard and a JD from New York University.

Amelia K. Brankov is a litigation and arts attorney at Frankfurt Kurnit Klein&Selz PC. She advises modern and contemporary art galleries, collectors, artist studios, curators, antiquities dealers, art advisors, appraisers, and conservators. She represents clients in disputes concerning the title, authenticity, and copyright interests of artwork, as well as business disputes among various players in the art world. She assists clients in all legal aspects of transactions involving artwork including purchase agreements, consignment agreements, and loan agreements. She is the Chair of the Art, Antiques & Auctions Advisory Board of Trusts &Estates magazine, the Co-Chair of the New York County Lawyers Association’s Art Law Committee, and is the Chair of the Intellectual Property Subcommittee of the Art Law Committee of the New York City Bar Association.

Suzanne Siano is the owner and chief conservator of Modern Art Conservation, a private practice focused on the examination, conservation, and restoration of modern and contemporary paintings from the late 19th century to the present. The team includes seven paintings conservators and five support staff, all with a particular expertise in modern and contemporary art. Clients include museums, private and corporate collections, auction houses, galleries, art advisors, and insurers. Trained at the Institute of Fine Arts Conservation Center, Suzanne was a paintings conservator at MoMA for 13 years in addition to working at two NY-based private studios. Since 2006, Suzanne has been an Adjunct Professor at the IFA, training future conservators in the specialized area of modern and contemporary materials and conservation. She also lectures widely on topics such as damage and loss, conserving non-traditional materials, best practices for collectors, and the role of the conservator in the art market.

Steven R. Schindler is one of the founding partners of Schindler Cohen & Hochman LLP, one of New York City's outstanding litigation and art law boutiques. In addition to being a senior member of the firm’s litigation practice, Steve also heads SCH’s Art Law Group, which combines SCH’s formidable litigation expertise with a deep knowledge of the art market and its specific legal issues. Steve regularly advises art galleries, other businesses in the art space on transactional matters, such as the sale and acquisition of art and their relationships with dealers, banks and auction houses, and has litigated cases involving the authenticity, title, provenance, and appraisals of art. Steve is the immediate past chair of the NYC Bar Association's Art Law Committee, and on the faculty of NYU’s Steinhardt School where he teaches art law. Steve often speaks on legal and industry sponsored panels relating to current topics in art law, and is the author of numerous articles on art law. Steve is the co-host of The Art Law Podcast.

Elizabeth von Habsburg brings over 30 years of experience in the art world to her role of Managing Director at Winston Art Group. Before joiningWinston Art Group, she was President of the US operations for another art advisory and appraisal firm where she worked for 18 years. Prior to that, she was Vice President and Director of the Estates and Appraisals department of Habsburg Fine Art Auctioneers, and she started her career as Assistant Vice President in charge of the Appraisal department at Christie’s New York. Elizabeth holds a Bachelor of Arts from Stanford University and a Masters of Art from Columbia University. Elizabeth was on the Board of The Appraisers Association of America from 2003-2015; 2014 Chair and Board Member of The Appraisal Foundation; is a Fellow of the Pierpont Morgan Library and the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors; a Member of ArtTable; and an Associate Member of the Inland Marine Underwriters Association. She co-wrote a chapter of Fine Art & High Finance, published by Bloomberg Press in 2009, wrote a chapter in Appraising Art: The Definitive Guide to Appraising the Fine and Decorative Arts, published by the Appraisers Association of America in 2013, and she edited the Antique Hunters Guides to Pottery and Porcelain, Furniture, and Silver and Pewter for BlackDog Publications in 2000-2001. She is a qualified expert witness, lectures frequently on Fine and Decorative art and art as an asset class, and in 2015 was included on Private Asset Management’s list of The 50 Most Influential Women in Wealth Management.
