Appraiser's Statement

Kerry Shrives is a Senior Vice President and Senior Appraiser at Bonhams Skinner, with over three decades of experience in appraising, cataloging, and selling furniture, decorative art, and fine art from the 17th to the 21st centuries.

She has handled significant property such as the rediscovery and sale of Fitz Hugh Lane's Sunset at Gloucester Harbor for $3.3 million – a world record for the artist and a record for a painting sold at an American auction outside of New York. Shrives also has broad experience with successful single-owner sales, including the Solomon Collection of Judaica, which brought $1.5 million, including an important silver and silver-gilt synagogue ark-form Hanukkah lamp that sold for $314,000.

Shrives has been a frequent contributor to the popular PBS program ANTIQUES ROADSHOW since its inception, and featured as a specialist in decorative arts, sculpture, metalwork, silver, and furniture. Her focus on the intersection of antiques and technology has driven the successful transformation of Skinner into a digital business.

An Accredited Member of the Appraisers Association of America, Shrives holds an M.A. in the History of Art from the University of London and a B.A. from Smith College.
