Appraiser's Statement

Jim Hawkins is an appraiser of Archives, Historical and Political materials; large literary and musical papers collections; and modern and contemporary American Art and artists' estates. He is the first nationally accredited Archival Appraiser, and he is a member of the Society of American Archivists. His clients include national cultural institutions, universities, private collection owners, private galleries, libraries, estate and trust attorneys, insurance companies, appraisers, scholars, artists and authors and their estates. Mr. Hawkins also provides consultation on collection management and curatorial projects; estate planning; art brokerage; and artist placement services. Mr. Hawkins, a native Mississippian, serves as a literary and estate executor, and he has been responsible for researching, cataloguing and inventorying and advising national and state institutions on historic papers collections. Mr. Hawkins is a long-term collector of American abstract art in all media. He has an avid interest in the fiction of the American South, and he has published a novel in his role as a literary executor. He is the founding president of Manhattan’s 501(c)(3) Jumel-Terrace Landmark Historic District association.
