This panel will discuss the art market in India and its standing within the global art market.  

Attorneys Debottam Bose, Attorney, Debottam T. Bose, Esq., and Michael McCullough, Partner, Pearlstein, McCullough & Lederman, LLP will review of the Indian art market, currency and legal regulations, and what you need to know about forgeries and stolen art from antiquities to mid-century. France Pepper, AAA, Director, China Insider, will address issues specific to appraising art from India within the United States.

Debottam T. Bose is a project finance lawyer by training, having worked in international law firms like Skadden, Arps, Slate Meagher & Flom LLP (London) and White & Case LLP (London). He studied art history in London at the School of Oriental &  African Studies (SOAS) and then went on to develop a niche consultancy, with a focus on international art, finance and philanthropy. He divides his time between New York, London, Oxford, Paris, New Delhi, Mumbai, Calcutta and Singapore.

Michael McCullough's art law practice covers a broad area of the art market. He advises galleries, auctioneers and collectors on a variety of matters regarding consignment agreements, collaborative legal arrangements, authenticity issues, ownership issues, and many others. Mr. McCullough has extensive experience in the unique issues that affect online auctioneers and art sellers; he worked on many of the early efforts to sell art and antiques online, and works with the top online auctioneers in today’s market. During his ten years as compliance counsel at Sotheby’s, he gained extensive experience in the full range of commercial and regulatory concerns involved in art market transactions.

France Pepper, AAA, is a specialist in Chinese art, with 30 years of experience. She specializes in Chinese ceramics, bronzes and other metalwork, Buddhist art, archaeological material, furniture and wood objects, and other decorative arts. France is the Founder and Director of China Insider, is a lecturer at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and other institutions, and was the Director of Arts and Culture Programs at China Institute for over a decade.
